At Last

Jason sat and admired Genevieve as she lay peacefully sleep wrapped in silk sheets and a cotton comforter. They had been dating for over a year after meeting at a jazz club and things had been great. Their conversations flowed well and plenty of good times had come their way. Genevieve was even there through the tough times when Jason's Mom recently died as a result of Cancer. She would help care for his ill Mother while taking turns with Jason and his brother Mike to watch over her. This meant the world to Jason and from that point on he knew that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with Genevieve.

Tonight was the big night so Jason had taken a day off of work to make sure everything would be perfect for the big reveal. He knew that Genevieve had one of her law school classes today at noon so that would give him time to come back to the apartment later on. Before he walked out the door Jason placed a sunflower on the kitchen counter along with a note that read : "You are the sunshine of my life. Meet me here at 8 pm."

Jason pulled up to Tiffany's. He had picked up the engagement ring that reminded him of Genevieve, a princess cut diamond which was a classic fit. He went into the store to pick up his purchase and as the sales associate tied the white bow neatly on the box he smiled.

The next stop was Charlotte Russe where Jason had picked out a nice dress for Genevieve to wear later on that evening. Since her favorite color was purple he had picked out an off the shoulder dress that would accentuate her figure nicely. The dress along with a nice pair of heels were to go neatly in a large white gift box tied with a purple bow. A note that read "Put this on for a special evening," was attached. This box was to be placed on her desk at the law firm that she worked at along with a sunflower.

..........................

It was already 7:30 pm and Jason was dressed in a nice paor of dress slacks with his favorite navy blue dress shirt. His Stacey Adams were shining and he was full of anticipation as 8:00 pm drew nearer. Just as he was about to sit dowm and relax he heard the doorknob rattle, which indicated that someone was entering. As the door opened his eyes focused on perfectly manicured toes before his eyes led him to Genevieve looking absolutely beautiful in the dress and heels he had purchased. She smelled of a lovely lavender fragrance as she crossed the room with a smile on her face which soon turned into tears of joy. "Oh Jason,I feel like a princess," she said.

Jason and Genevieve held a steady embrace before they were off to dinner where Jason had made reservations to their favorite restaurant, Magiono's. At Jason's request their table was adorned with sunflower petals and a beautiful bouquet of sunflowers were the centerpiece in a waterford crystal vase.

A live jazz band played in the background as they feasted on a top chef meal. After the meal a carriage ride greeted them as they exited the restaurant. As they rode down a quiet street which seemed to be just for them Jason knew that this was the perfect moment. He nervously got down on one knee and said"Genevieve, You've been carrying my heart for over a year and my heart now beats to your rhythm. Will you marry me?"

Tears formed in Genevieve's eyes as "Yes" escaped her lips and the most beautiful ring ever was placed on her left ring finger.

A short distance later the carriage stopped right in front of a quartet of violins playing "At Last" by Eta James.

"Will you dance with me?," Jason said.

"Of course, I've been dancing since the first day we met," Genevieve said.
